The furnishings act as a bridge between the guest and the clothing on display, one of the core pieces designed for the space was an archival denim flat file.
Echoing the denim archive, a huge 8' square panel hangs on center from the wall at the back of the shop. This element, lovingly dubbed "The Monolith" was conceived as an ever evolving canvas for 3sixteen to invite intervention from their closest artist collaborators. From full murals, to a pair of denim nailed to its surface, the Monolith is a flexible means with which the store can change seasonally and keep customers engaged with the brick and mortar location.
Custom retail displays line the North side of the shop, A hang bar showcasing outerwear and shirting is suspended from the ceiling. The negative space below generates a lightness in what otherwise would feel like a dense floorpan.
The denim styles that 3sixteen is founded around are displayed on custom metal hanging system that invites customers to flip through them as they would posters, providing a 270 degree view of the garment without needing to pull it off the hanger. The denim is backed by a clean white panel and framed in solid straight grained Ash wood.
A custom designed lectern nested between divided light windows displays a finely curated set of artists books. Once commonplace in grand homes, the lectern as a designed object has become rare. For 3sixteen it represents a functional and ritualistic way of displaying the books they love.
A fitting room was outfitted with solid wood detailing to create a warm, human environment for people to try on clothing. The cozy nook is a break from the pared back aesthetic of the main space, reminiscent of a fine dressing room in a home.
